Wetlands Trust at Arundel
15 "twitchers" from U3A joined our trip to Sussex on the 11th August. Our coffee stop was at the RSPB reserve at Pulborough Brooks where we enjoyed a quick leg stretch in the heathland area. Then onto the Wetlands Trust at Arundel where we viewed their impressive international collection of wildfowl. We enjoyed a leisurely 3 hour stroll through the reserve visiting a number of bird hides. There was very little action on the wild bird front, but we know that in August they are mostly "on holiday" after the rigours of breeding and rearing young. So it was an opportunity to stroll and chat together amongst an abundance of wildflowers without having to keep too quiet! We finished off the day in our usual fashion with a well-deserved meal in Arundel.
Our plan is to alternate longer trips with local patches so our September event will be a walk through the Darenth Valley, followed by another trip to the Sevenoaks Wildfowl Trust. This will take place on Tuesday, 22nd September. Details to follow.
